The Editing Difference

What Line Editing Actually
Changes in Your Manuscript

Before Line Editing

Sentences feel clunky — readers stumble rather than flow through the page

Repetitive words and phrases appear throughout, dulling the impact

Voice shifts noticeably between chapters — feels like two different writers

Scenes drag with unnecessary filler that kills narrative momentum

Word choices are safe and vague — prose lacks specificity and power

Something feels "off" but you can't quite pinpoint what it is

After Uprisen Line Editing

Every sentence flows naturally — readers are pulled through the page effortlessly

Precise, purposeful word choices that make every line land with impact

Consistent, distinctive voice throughout — unmistakably yours, only stronger

Pacing that keeps readers turning pages — tension and release perfectly balanced

Prose that feels polished, confident, and ready for any publisher's desk

You retain full control — accept or reject every suggested change

Author Stories

What Authors Say About
Our Line Editing

They tightened my prose beautifully and eliminated my crutch words. I docked a star because a few of their stylistic rewrites felt slightly too formal for my cozy mystery, but they were easily fixed.

Sylvia Vance

Mystery Author

My dialogue felt incredibly stiff before this edit. They smoothed out the sentence flow and made my characters sound natural without erasing my unique author voice. A massive improvement.

Leo Gallagher

Romance Novelist

Excellent attention to rhythm and paragraph transitions. The manuscript reads so much smoother now. Turnaround took a few days longer than initially quoted, but the quality was worth the wait.

FAQs

Line Editing Questions Answered

Line editing focuses on style, flow, pacing, and word choice — the art of writing. Copyediting focuses on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax — the rules of writing. We recommend line editing first, followed by copyediting. Doing it in this order ensures the prose is shaped beautifully before it’s polished for technical correctness.

No — and this is a core principle of our approach. Our goal is to enhance your voice, not replace it. We suggest improvements and offer rewrites for clunky sentences, but you have the final say on every single change via the Tracked Changes document. Your book remains entirely yours.

Line editing focuses at the paragraph and sentence level. If your manuscript has major structural or plot issues, we recommend a Developmental Edit before proceeding with line editing. We’ll flag any significant structural concerns in our editorial letter, even if they fall outside the line editing scope.

A standard Microsoft Word document (.docx) is required. Please use a standard font (like Times New Roman or Arial, 12pt) with double spacing so we can easily add comments and tracked changes throughout the manuscript.

We typically edit 2,000 to 3,000 words per day with full attention and care. A standard 80,000-word novel usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks. Rush delivery is available for an additional fee for authors with time-sensitive publishing deadlines.
